Audacity ![](http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/images/audacity- windows.png)
Audacity is a software for recording, editing and mounting sounds.
It permits to do all kinds of operations on sound clips, its is easily operated, and it is well documented on the Web.
I very often use it, for my recordings, but also at the workshop, for sound analysing.
Indeed, one the features that is the most useful to me in Audacity, is the feature of spectral analysis, which permits to find, on a recorded sound (even very short) the fundamental and harmonic frequencies that compose it.

Qcad is the CAD software that I use for making my own plans. It is a 2D software that features layers and that supports the standard formats like dxf.
The main difference between Qcad and an other drawing soft like Inkscape is that QCAD is really for making plans, that is to say that its main concern is dimensional accuracy. Inkscape, which is more handy for complicated curves or artistic contours, is not really accurate talking about dimensions.

Bigprint is a very good software from Canadian Mathias Wandel (see my article about him in the Links section) .
Bigprint allows to print any image (a plan or simply a picture) at any scale on several A4 sheets of paper, using any home inkjet printer.
It features a very efficient system that allows to align printed sheets to stick them back together and make the full size plan.
